Formed at Glasgow, 26th February 1915 by the Lord Provost & City as a Bantam Battalion. On 23rd September 1917 the 18th absorbed Head Quarters & 2 squadrons of the dismounted Glasgow Yeomanry & was retitled as 18th (Glasgow Yeomanry) Battalion.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission has 533 recorded WW1 deaths for the 18th (Service) Battalion (4th Glasgow), Highland Light Infantry & 80 recorded WW1 deaths for the 18th (Glasgow Yeomanry) Battalion.

Born at Shillelagh, County Wicklow, Ireland. Educated at Trinity College Dublin & Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Was commanding Officer of 18th Battalion from 18-08-1915 until his death in action. Received a DSO in the King's 1917 Birthday Honours List.
