Heaton of Combermere, Woodford Road, Bramhall, Stockport, UK. Native of Manchester, UK. 6, church Lane, Urmston, on 22-05-1896. He enlisted, shortly after the outbreal of war, as a Private, with the 28th (Reserve) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers.He was selected for Officer training & was Commissioned a few weeks later, Second Lieutenant with the Lancashire Fusiliers. Killed by shellfire on the British front line. The CWGC has his rank as Lieutenant but it appears that he was not promoted past Second Lieutenant.

MURGATROYD, (MC). Hugh Lester. Captain. 1st/7th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. On Attachment From :- Leicestershire Regiment. Lebucqiere, Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas-de-Calais, France. Friday 27-09-1918. Age 23. Son of John & Mary Alice (nee Fletcher) Murgatroyd of "Westerland", Watling Street, Bexleyheath, Kent, UK. Enlisted September 1914. Born at Christchurch, New Zealand in 1895. He had previously served at Galipolli & Egypt. Also remembered on the Bexleyheath War Memorial. The citatiob for his MC appeared in the London Gazette of 23rd July 1918. “Lieutenant Hugh Lester Murgatroyd, Leicester Regiment, For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in commanding his company with great dash and determination and beating off several attacks by the enemy. Later, he led his company with great coolness through a heavy barrage to reinforce a unit heavily engaged in front. He displayed gallantry and fine power of command.” Stone Inscription :- "He Hath Given Us His Life Greater Love Hath No Man".
