This unit was formed as an infantry battalion at Knightsbridge Barracks in London on 1 September 1916. The troops were drawn from the reserve units of the Household Cavalry, (1st & 2nd Life Guards & The Royal Horse Guards). There was then a period of intensive retraining to convert the cavalry troops into foot soldiers. The Battalion was disbanded in February 1918.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission has 104 recorded WW1 deaths for the Household Battalion.
