GREEN, Ernest Michael. Captain. 14th (Service) Battalion (1st Portsmouth), Hampshire Regiment. Serre Road Cemetery, No.1, Beaumont-Hamel, Somme, France. Killed in action. 03-09-1916. Age 27. Son of Michael A. & Netta Green of Marlborough Place, St. John's Wood, London, UK. Educated at St. Paul's, London. Ernest Michael Green was born 28-10-1888. He was an officer in the Jewish Lads’ Brigade, a member of St John’s Wood Synagogue and heavily involved in charity work with Jewish groups in the East End of London before he went to war in 1914, alongside his two brothers, Frederick and Brian. Only Ernest did not come home.
