Died suddenly at base hospital from heart failure following an attack of pneumonia. Joined army in 1899 & served in South African Campaign where he was seriously wounded. He retired with the rank of Captain when his father died but on the outbreak of war was gazetted to the 4th Yorks Regiment (Territorial Force) as Major on 05-09-1914. on 29-05-1916 was appointed to command Group Machine Gun Training Centre with rank of temporary Lieutenant Colonel.
