The Commonwealth War Graves Commission has 879 recorded WW1 deaths for the Welsh Guards. The Welsh Guards were raised by Royal Warrant of George V on 26th February 1915. Only 3 days later, on St. David's Day, they supplied the King's Guard at Buckingham Palace. They sailed for France, & duty on the Western Front, on 17th August 1915. The Regiments first Victoria Cross was presented to Serjeant Robert Bye in July 1917.
