BEATSON, Roger Stewart Montresor. Lieutenant. 6th (Service) Battalion, Attached :- 10th (Service) Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers-la-Boisselle, Somme, France. Sunday 02-07-1916. Age 25. Eldest son of Mrs. C.M. Beatson & the late Mr. W.W.G. Beatson, (East India Merchant). Born 20-07-1890 at Rangoon, India & baptised at the Cantoment Church, Rangoon. Educated at Rugby School, he worked as a banker, living at 3, Scotts Lane, Shortlands, Bromley, Kent, before joiming the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, arriving in the UK with the 1st Canadian contingent. He was commissioned into the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in December 1914. He was wounded in August 1914 & on recovering joind the 10th Battalion. He was killed while leading his men during an attack near Fricourt. Stone Inscription :- "The Lord Bless Thee And Keep Thee".
