Son of Lieutenant Colonel G.A. Beaty-Pownall & Susan Beaty-Pownall. His Brother, Lieutenant Colonel George Ernest Beaty-Pownell DSO of 2nd Battalion, Border Regiment on attachment to 1st Battalion, King's Own Scottish Borderers, fell on 10-10-1918 aged 41 and is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Stone Inscription :- "Requiescat In Pace".
CHOLMELEY, Hugh Lewin. Lieutenant. 3rd (Reserve) Battalion, Attached To :- 1st Battalion, Border Regiment. Pier & Face 6A & 7C, Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. 01-07-1916. Age 23. Son of Lewin Charles & Elizabeth Maud Cholmeley of Hamilton Terrace, St. John's Wood, London, UK. Previously wounded with 2nd Battalion, March 1915. His brother Second Lieutenant Hugh Valentine Cholmeley, 1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards, died 07-04-1916 aged 28 is buried in Ypres Reservoir Cemetery, West-Flanders, Belgium. This is his grave marker which also remembers Lieuenant Hugh Lewin Cholmeley. Lower name. Upper name is his brother Valentine.
