Clive MacDonnell. Major. 16th (The Queen's) Lancers. Nieuwkerke (Neuve Eglise) Churchyard, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. 05-11-1914. Age 44. Son of Sir Raylton & Lady Dixon of Gunnergate Hall, Marton, husband of Lilian Margaret Dixon of Chapelgarth, Great Broughton, Cleveland, Yorkshire, UK. He attended Rugby School and Sandhurst before embarking on a military career and was appointed second lieutenant in the 16th Lancers in October 1890, and captain in 1899. During the Second Anglo-Boer War 1899-1901 he was aide-de-camp to Sir George White, and was promoted a brevet major on 29 November 1900.[3] For the rest of the war, he served as adjutant to his regiment. Returning back home following the end of the war, Dixon resigned from the army in August 1902.[4] He re-enlisted after the outbreak of the First world war, and was killed at Ypres shortly after receiving the substantive promotion to Major.
