The North Irish Horse is a yeomanry unit of the British Territorial Army raised in the northern counties of Ireland in the aftermath of the Second Boer War.

Age 22. Son of William Plumer Kellock & Mrs. M.C. Kellock of Allerton, Totnes, Devon, UK. Born in Ashburton, Canterbury, New Zealand, on 18 February 1896, On 5 October 1914 Harold enlisted in the 2/1 Royal North Devon Hussars at Barnstaple (No.1198). He was aged 18.

Age 40. Son of Augustus E. & Sarah West of Whitepark, County Fermanagh, Ireland. Husband of Maud E. West of Trafalgar Square, Chelsea, London, UK. He was 39 years old, and an acting Lieutenant Colonel in the North Irish Horse, seconded to 6th Battalion, Tank Corps when he was awarded the VC.

An extract from the Second Supplement to "The London Gazette", No. 30982, dated 29th Oct., 1918, records the following "For most conspicuous bravery, leadership and self-sacrifice. During an attack, the infantry having lost their bearings in the dense fog, this officer at once collected and re-organised any men he could find and led them to their objective in face of heavy machine-gun fire. Throughout the whole action he displayed the most utter disregard of danger, and the capture of the objective was in a great part due to his initiative and gallantry."
